Back in January, at a Dr. Caterwauls gig, I said to Brian and Adam something like “we should do a project where we play some heads and shred.” Both agreed. In the meantime I was in the midst of wrapping up a piece for orchestra. I didn’t have time to really dig into writing the trio music but the three of us continued to randomly discuss this concept. About a month after finishing the orchestra thing (anyone know an orchestra looking for some music?) I got a message from Joe Moffett, trumpet player for the art song duo Twins of El Dorado, about setting up a gig in CT. I said absolutely. I played a gig with them a couple of years ago and had a great time. Their music is top notch. Plus…it seemed like the perfect fit for this concept of guitar/accordion/violin music. So…with a gig booked I started getting the pen to the paper. As of this writing there are seven pieces. The music is inspired by, among other things, the short stories of Donald Barthelme. There’s also the specter of Ornette (RIP). We’ll be debuting the pieces on July 1 at Best Video in Hamden CT. 8p.
